Mark Buchholtz and David Shoemaker created "last three lives" with particular goals in mind: Play original instrumental music in a creative manner; Incorporate a variety of styles and genres, old and new (such as electronic, progressive, ambient, space, and world) reflecting the influences from artists they respect, such as Brian Eno, Robert Fripp, David Sylvian, Michael Brook, and Pink Floyd; Play instruments, not computers and automated sequencers.
